12-2A Mid Year Review - Division I

2010 is shaping up to be a great year for Class 2A football in Central Texas with both Division I and II of 12-2A having some very strong teams.  Division I has several teams with rich playoff histories, but this district is shaping up as Cameron as the lead dog, followed by the rest of the pack.

Alpha Dog
The Cameron Yoemen went through a tough non-district schedule unblemished and have proceeded to crucify district opponents on a weekly basis.  The only thing that will keep the #4 team in Class 2A from making a lengthy playoff run could be the shock of facing the likes of Newton early in the playoffs after an extended period of coasting.  Their offensive weapons offer Coach Rick Rhodes new and different ways to inflict pain on opposing defenses.
Bottom Line:  See you Dec. 2-4 for a quarterfinals match up with #2 Tatum...Winner takes all of Class 2A-D1.

The Pack
The remaining two spots in District 12-2A Division I should come down to McGregor, Troy, and Marlin.  Based on the early results, the nod will have to go to Coach Grady Rowe's Trojans, behind the running of Bedazypha Farmer (great name!), and Coach Tim Seward's Bulldogs.  This week's contest between Troy and Marlin should help sort this race out.
Bottom Line:  Trojans and Bulldogs will enjoy the thrill of the playoffs followed by the agony of facing the firing squad known as Region 3.

The Pound
For Academy, Florence, and Hearne, it's wait until next year...again.  While Florence has made an admirable showing, it does not seem to have the horses to make a run in 2010 in District 12.  Academy's Mike Nichols is working hard, but has a long way to go to get the program to playoff caliber in this district.  Hearne looks like that they are mailing it in.
Bottom Line:  When does basketball season start?

1 comment:

  1. Yoemen confirm their dominance in the district with another blowout win. This time over the Bulldogs at McGregor
